Google Becomes Bigger Name In Travel, Buys Frommer's

One of the most popular names in travel is now part of the Google universe. The technology company has announced they are purchasing Frommer’s from John Wiley & Sons, according to The Wall Street Journal. Is Google Travel going to be a future destination for many of us? It could be after the Mountain View, Calif. company announced their acquisition of Frommer’s for an undisclosed price. The travel brand has long been popular with folks looking for travel bargains and reviews. According to the report, Google will use their most recent buy to bolster their offerings of local reviews around the world. Additionally, they may also use Frommer’s in conjunction with Zagat, the popular restaurant-review company that they purchased in September. A big unknown, however, is what will become of Frommer’s popular line of travel books. Google has not announced whether these books will remain in print, or migrate entirely to online.  Some of Frommer’s most popular titles are already available for iOS devices. These include: Frommer's Japan Day By Day and Frommer's Great Britain Day By Day. AppAdvice reviewed these titles and more in May.
