Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Browse Discovery Channel HD

As the 25th run of Shark Week nears its commencement next week, Discovery Channel has updated its official iPad app with special shark-related second-screen content. Called Discovery Channel HD, the iPad app serves as a companion app for Discovery Channel's various shows. With its rich media content, the app lets you get more out of the channel's programming about history, technology, and popular science. Of course, that includes the much-awaited week-long telecast of shows dedicated to sharks. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Ahead of the start of Shark Week on Sunday, Aug. 12, Discovery Channel HD has been enhanced with a special feature called Shark Week Plus:

Introducing Shark Week Plus, an interactive second-screen experience, synchronized to select shows from Shark Week's 25th Anniversary! Using ACR (automatic content recognition) technology, this deeper dive into Shark Week features exclusive photos, behind-the-scenes information, revealing production shots, interactive infographics, shark trivia and much more! Discovery Channel is offering Shark Week Plus exclusivity to iPad users each night of Shark Week from 9 to 10PM e/p, and Shark Week Bingo from 10-11PM e/p.

Discovery Channel HD for iPad is available in the App Store for free. Discovery Channel for iPhone is also available, but it's not yet, if ever, updated for the forthcoming Shark Week.
