Boxes by Fishington Studios ($2.99) by Fishington Studios creates ways to capture and compartmentalize your thoughts.
You create a box to hold journals, and a journal to hold your pages, and your pages to record what you’d like. Each page can either be a typed note, a freehand note, a list, a recording, or a map. All of the pages are listed in a table of contents of sorts at the beginning of the journal.
Different box designs are available, including a wooden box, a footlocker, and an air mail parcel. A variety of notebooks are available as well.
Anything from a Moleskine to a simple spiral bound can be selected. Which design you select for either of them has no effect on what you can record; it just comes down to personal preference.
Navigating to the different pages is either done by tapping the chevron to the side of the page, or by swiping between pages. The options for swiping through the pages are either left/ right (if you want it to be like flipping pages in a book) or up/ down (if you’re more interested in having it be like a legal pad).
Your boxes can be shared with others for collaboration. For example, if you’re working on a project with a team, you could make a box just for that purpose.
While this app comes as close to real as you can, thanks to its skeuomorphic graphics, you have to wonder if this is a case of form over function.
Obviously, there are other ways to record your thoughts and share them. Dropbox and Evernote are the first to come to mind. But this app certainly outshines them when it comes to design.
If you’re looking for an elegant way to capture your ideas, then this app would be up your alley. However, if you’re more interested in just jotting things down without having to drill down to retrieve them, then you may want to pass on this one.
