StarLab Game Posts A Teaser Trailer For Their Upcoming iOS Rhythm Game, Rhythmix
August 21, 2012
They may not be a simulation-style experience, but rhythm games are plenty of fun for music lovers. For iDevice owners, the most popular choice is the Tap Tap Revenge series, which includes titles such as Born This Way Revenge and Tap Tap Glee. However, unique gameplay choices like SK Planet's Revolution Tap give rhythm game fans a fresh feel. Now, it seems, StarLab Game is hoping to succeed by bringing their own twist to the genre later this month with Rhythmix.
From the early screenshots and teaser video, both embedded below, Rhythmix features two differentiating gameplay elements. The first is an old school-style 2-D top-down view instead of the glamorous 3-D environment furnished in most other games. The second being a detour from the fret or staff approach.
To elaborate, most rhythm games consist of parallel paths that look like a fretboard or music staff. On these paths, spheres or similar music indicators travel towards the player. The objective of the game is to tap the target areas whenever a music indicator moves over them.
In Rhythmix, the player must still tap, tap and hold, or tap and slide to the beat of the music. Although, the music indicators are not setup in a neat line this time. Still exhibiting some organization, the indicators are placed anywhere or everything throughout the screen, thus creating a different type of challenge.
Speaking of challenging, one of the few officially announced features of Rhythmix is five difficulty levels. The other features that we know of are various music genre, both iPad and iPhone compatibility, Retina display optimization, and that it will be available in the App Store on August 30.
