This Week In Accessories: A Walk On The Retro Side

August 24, 2012
Welcome back to This Week in Accessories, where we'll be highlighting some of the most interesting and innovative companions for your iOS device that hit the market this week. Let's get started. Padintosh Case

ThinkGeek is known for creating some great retro accessories for iOS devices like the iCade and iCade 8-Bitty. And their newest creation continues that tradition. The Padintosh Case, compatible with the new iPad and iPad 2, brings some of that Macintosh style to your tablet. Designed to look like an original Macintosh, complete with floppy disk drive and bevel around the monitor, the thin Padintosh can be used right along with Apple’s Smart cover. The Padintosh Case is $24.99 and can be ordered from ThinkGeek. BT Lite Headphones

The words inexpensive and lightweight are not the first two things that come to mind when someone mentions Bluetooth headphones. But Satechi’s BT Lite Headphones are both. The headphones weight in at 2.6 ounces and feature an adjustable headband for a good fit. With Bluetooth 3.0, the headphones have integrated controls allowing users to play and pause music as well as control volume and skip tracks. Along with music, users can also answer and reject phone calls or redial the last number called directly through the headphones. The headphones also automatically switch from music to phone mode when receiving a call. The BT Lite Headphones cost a reasonable $44.99 and are available directly through Satechi or Amazon. Ecoxpower

While you don’t have to look very far to find an iPhone charger, the new Ecoxpower from Ecoxgear is a little different. The device is a combined pedal-powered headlight and smartphone charger for bicycles. With a universal mount, the product attaches to most standard and oversized bicycle hubs and comes with a handlebar-mounted, water-resistant smartphone case that attaches to the handlebars. Pedaling your bike lights up a pair of LED lights - the front headlight and red rear taillight. And the built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery helps keep your iOS device or other smartphone charged. The Ecoxpower is $99.99 and can be ordered directly though the company’s website.
