Tweetings For Twitter Gets Better ... And More Tweetbot-Like
August 27, 2012
Developer DW:design is definitely unfazed by the prospect of restriction thanks to Twitter’s ambiguous guidelines on third-party apps. This month alone, it has pushed three significant updates to its popular Twitter client for iPhone, Tweetings.
Released just a few hours ago, the latest of these updates brings a number of welcome enhancements.
Oddly, the app still has no native iOS Twitter integration, but it now has better YouTube integration, among others.
As in the arguably more popular iOS Twitter client Tweetbot, tweets that contain YouTube links now show a timeline thumbnail in Tweetings.
In addition, tapping the timeline thumbnail loaded from a http://youtu.be short link will now automatically play the corresponding video in full screen. Normally, tapping the link itself will open the in-app browser.
As in Tweetbot again, a timeline sync marker is supported in Tweetings. And now, you can specify whether to display it and whether to automatically scroll to it.
The most recent update to Tweetings also adds an edit button to the search screen for easier deletion of saved searches. Note, though, that you can still swipe to delete a saved search.
Furthermore, the update enables uploading of notes from the compose screen to Pastebin.com
The new version of Tweetings for Twitter is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a $2.99 download.
To be honest, Tweetbot is my Twitter client of choice on my iPhone (and on my iPad and Mac too). That is not to say, though, that the frequently updated Tweetings is not worth checking out.
