Eureka! We've Found A Great Calculator App In The Form Of Archimedes!
September 29, 2012
The iPhone has a pretty basic stock calculator app. The iPad, well, has none. Luckily for us, there are a good many third-party calculator apps for iPhone and iPad available in the App Store. One such app is the newly updated Archimedes.
Released just a month ago, Archimedes is a calculator app that can perform both basic and advanced operations. Its main selling point, though, is its ability to display calculations in a manner that follows actual mathematical notation.
In addition to solving simple operations, Archimedes also aids you in solving complex equations, whether they're linear or quadratic. Archimedes can also simplify roots, fractions, and trigonometric functions for you.
Archimedes has recently received a substantial update. This includes copy-and-paste functionality and answer with auto recalculation.
In the new version of Archimedes, you can now copy calculations within the app, out of the app, and into the app. The app even converts what you copy into it to the proper notation.
As for the answer with auto recalculation feature, Archimedes developer Patrick Pijnappel explains that it is "automatically added when likely needed, but there's also a button. When editing older calculations, dependent ones are updated automatically."
The update also brings the following improvements:
Optimized for iOS 6 and iPhone 5, Archimedes is available in the App Store as a $4.99 universal app. Considering how impressive its old and new features are, Archimedes is definitely a calculator app worthy of the eponymous Greek mathematician. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
