It's Thumbs Up For TiVo 2.0

September 6, 2012
Great news, TiVo fans. The popular universal iOS app, which allows users to control their beloved TiVo box using an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, has recently been updated to version 2.0. Now, folks can add a "TiVo Stream" to their account, and stream Premiere shows to an iDevice. As outlined in the app's release notes:
Add a TiVo Stream to your TiVo account and all the shows on your TiVo Premiere can now be seen on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Have your own TV wherever you go, from the kitchen to the patio to your kid’s soccer practice or on that long flight your favorite shows will always be with you. Go to tivo.com/stream to learn more.
In order to take advantage of TiVo Stream, users will first need to purchase a $130 TiVo Stream box from the service. As originally reported by ourselves at the end of last month:
The $130 TiVo Stream box, which will be available at TiVo.com, and in Best Buy stores, turns the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad into mini televisions. Using it, you’ll be able to scan the channel guide, select a show, and then watch it live. You can also use it to download content onto your iOS devices for later viewing, as well as view pre-recorded content. To use TiVo Stream, you must own one of TiVo’s Premiere models. You’ll also need to install the free TiVo Stream app onto your mobile device. The app has yet to debut in the App Store.
Currently, the TiVo iOS app is available to download in the App Store for free. Take a look a version 2.0, and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
