These Pocket Trucks Are More Than Just Toys
Pocket Trucks ($0.99) by Ganymede Sp. z o.o. is a fun new side scrolling driving game. Hop into these wheels and maneuver your way through an obstacle course of cardboard streets and toy box trinkets. The monster truck you’ll be driving is small enough to fit in your pocket.
Players drive a toy truck though an obstacle course that can only be described as a 10-year-old’s dream, come true. There are terrifying loops, rocket propelled jumps and hidden power boosts. The whole thing looks like it was put together using things that were found under the bed and in the closet.
The car is controlled with four virtual buttons. There are two directional buttons, forward and backward, and two flip buttons for front and back flips. If you successfully flip while driving through the course, you’ll earn experience points that help you to level up.
There are three goals for each level. If you complete each course under a certain amount of time, collect a specific number of bolts, and perform a few flips you’ll earn three stars. Each successfully completed goal earns additional experience points.
There are power boosts that will help you get to difficult sections of the course. For example, the spring will help you bounce to a higher platform and the wings will make you fly.
When players level up, they unlock new items in the “Garage.” Bolts and coins that are collected throughout the game can be used to purchase upgrades or design a whole new car. You can add roll bars, spoilers, tire designs, and more. If you don’t want to earn bolts and coins the old-fashioned way, you can buy them through in-app purchases.
This game is a lot of fun. It is fast paced and action packed. The levels are challenging, but not too difficult. By earning experience points and leveling up, you feel like you are progressing in the game. Being able to upgrade and design new cars makes collecting bolts and coins worth the money.
Pocket Trucks is a lot like popular console games from the 90s, like Sonic the Hedgehog. Players drive fast in order to get through dangerous loops and jump over exploding barrels while collecting bolts along the way. The game is very cheap at only $0.99 and you don’t have to spend any extra money if you don’t want to. It is a refreshing throwback to older gameplay and a must-have for fans of the genre.
