Bad App Alert! Command Your Senses To Steer Clear Of R-Tech Commander Colony

October 21, 2012
R-Tech Commander Colony sure does look out of this world. But in reality, as pointed out by one concerned AppAdvice reader, it is anything but. AppAdvice reader Frank recently sent us an email about his experience with R-Tech Commander Colony. "You guys do a great job of keeping us informed about all the good apps out there, but what about the bad ones?" began Frank's email. "I've got the perfect first app for the category: R-Tech Commander Colony." In R-Tech Commander Colony, you're supposed to play the role of an intergalactic chancellor. The game has you building an armada of battleships in order to defend your colony as well as to conquer other colonies. It is, according to its developer, the best galactic simulated life game. But it seems that a galaxy of real-world players, Frank included, beg to differ. R-Tech Commander Colony is not a good game, period, let alone the best galactic simulated life game. In the App Store, the game has garnered quite a significant number of five-star reviews. But these are rather suspect, owing to their nebulous and often grammatically incorrect one-liner statements. That they're submitted under seemingly random usernames also doesn't help uphold their validity. If you don't want to get duped, heed the one-star reviews that state in no uncertain terms how R-Tech Commander Colony is a waste of time — and, more critically, a waste of money. I'll let our friend Frank explain the hazards of R-Tech Commander Colony:
It's a blatant attempt by the developer to suck as much money out of the paying public as possible, while providing a game designed to suck you in. It constantly crashes, if you can get into the game at all. You have to pay outrageous in-app purchase prices to get anywhere in the game. But you usually don't get the "Gems" that you've purchased. If you do get the gems, you will play the game, only for the game to suddenly crash (this happens constantly in the game). And when you reboot the game, all (or most of) your progress has been lost! But wait ... Every week the developer comes out with a new promotion, a new way for you to spend money, to get further into the game. Only for the game to crash taking all your progress with it!
R-Tech Commander Colony is available in the App Store for free. But for reasons that have just been made clear, you'll definitely do well to steer clear of it. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
