Check Out The First Major Update To Check The Weather

October 30, 2012
Released just a couple of weeks ago, emerging iPhone weather app Check the Weather has already received its first major update. "I'm working hard to incorporate and improve based on your suggestions," says Check the Weather developer David Smith. "This release is the first step in that process." There are more than a thousand weather apps available for iPhone. But Check the Weather strives for distinction with its streamlined dashboard. This dashboard provides easy access to forecast details, from the basic to the advanced. The default dashboard screen displays the basic weather condition and forecast. To see the advanced details Check the Weather has to offer, just swipe right or left on the screen. Swiping right takes you to a rundown of the hourly temperature and chance of precipitation. Swiping left, on the other hand, takes you to the extended forecasts. The new update to Check the Weather brings a number of improvements. These are:
  • The Radar Map now animates when data is available (US Only)
  • Display current Wind Speed and Direction
  • Better Icon for Haze/Fog
  • Better handling of Location names
  • Show current location on weather map when available.
  • A host of other minor bug fixes and performance improvements.
All of these improvements are welcome, of course. But I have to say that I am most happy about the addition of font options in the new version of Check the Weather. I've never been a fan of the app's default font, Idlewild, so I'm glad that I now have the ability to switch to either Futura or Helvetica. Designed for iPhone and optimized with iPhone 5 support, Check the Weather is available in the App Store for $1.99. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
