Solar Walk Is Now Widescreen With A Little Something Extra

October 6, 2012
In August, Vito Technology updated both Solar Walk and Star Walk with expanded content, improved navigation and visuals, and performed routine maintenance. Of course, iPhone 5 and iOS 6 compatibility updates couldn't reasonably happen until late September, which is when Star Walk received a small update for just that purpose. And as of this week, Solar Walk joins the apps optimized for the four inch Retina display group, plus gains a little extra. Downplayed in the marvelous 16x9 view of the medium-sized Retina display, Solar Walk looks even more dramatic than ever before, especially the included videos. As you zoom around the solar system, we recommend you check out Mars. What's that you see? Yes, it is NASA's Curiosity rover exploring the "Red Planet." In addition, you can read a very brief overview of the project within the Science Missions section of the planet information panel. Before you go zipping off to the other planets and wealth of data in Solar Walk, zoom out just a bit from Mars and have a quick look at Phobos and Deimos, Mars's two moons. Even if you've already gazed at them before the latest update, it's still worth a glance as they're represented by improved models with better textures. Solar Walk is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone 3GS, 32GB and 64GB third generation iPod touch and newer running iOS 4.3 or later, and available in the App Store for $0.99.
