Take A Good Look At Tweetglass For Twitter, Formerly Known As Quip

October 10, 2012
Conversation-centric Twitter app Quip has just received a significant update. And along with it comes a major rebranding. From now on, Quip shall be known as Tweetglass. The new name reflects the iPad-only app's function as a Twitter client and its origin as a product of Glasshouse Apps. But as welcome as its rebranding is, much more welcome are the improvements that are brought by the app's latest update. Tweetglass introduces auto-refresh and Tweetbot-like streaming of Twitter timelines. The app's auto-refresh setting supports intervals of one, five, or 10 minutes. Glasshouse Apps explains that when this setting is enabled, "new tweets appear above if you're partway through your timeline, but if you're at the very top, they push everything else down so you can keep it open at your desk and go hands-free." Also, when this setting is enabled and a Wi-Fi network happens to be available, auto-refresh is automatically supplanted by timeline streaming. Tweetglass also introduces a new "who's tweeting" notification. You can see this new feature in action as you scroll through your timeline and the avatars of users who have posted new tweets appear beside the home icon. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. A notable omission in the original version of the app is support for read-later services. With Tweetglass, that omission has been addressed with the addition of Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability integration. You can send links to your favorite read-later service by long-tapping them, an action that also lets you copy links and open them in-app or in Safari. Other improvements introduced in Tweetglass are:
  • View your Twitter Lists
  • Localizations for French, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese
  • Better timeline scrolling performance
  • Native Twitter pics are larger and show more detail
  • Double-tap the Messages icon to mark all as read
  • New animation when expanding and collapsing conversations
  • UI tweaks & bug fixes
