Word Wonders: The Tower of Babel ($0.99) by dreamfab is a word game that is nothing like the typical ones you’ve played in the past. Tiles don’t drop from the sky, you don’t get to make multiple words with one letter, and the point is not to fill the board. The goal of this game is to annihilate your enemy with letters.
Players compete against various monsters and demons that are trying to stop them from discovering the lost treasure of “mankind’s common language.” To defeat enemies and find the missing language, create words that will energize you and destroy your enemy.
Each level starts with one word on the board and players must use one letter from that word to create a new one. Players can only add one word in each round. Each letter has the ability to give energy and attack the enemy. For example, the letter “Y” has two lightning bolts and two skulls etched onto the tile. The two lightning bolts add energy to the player that laid down the tile and subtracts two health points from the opponent.
The goal is to take away all of your opponent’s health points. Everything else is a bonus. You earn additional points for creating longer words, but the main thing you should be trying to do is destroy your enemy with letters.
Players earn coins during the game. The coins can be used to buy special boosts, upgrade power ups, and purchase items in the store.
Players collect ingredients to create potions that can be used during game play. The potions will increase your health or decrease your enemy’s. Players can also buy ingredients in the store to make the potions.
This is less of a word puzzle and more of a board game where the whole point is just to beat the enemy. Players lay down letters with the main goal of destroying their opponent. Earning coins is helpful, but only to buy items and boosts that will help kill the enemy.
Players who like word games will enjoy the challenge of trying to create the most destructive path out of letters. However, it is not like Scrabble or Words with Friends. This game is less about creating words and more about the adventure of defeating enemies and unlocking treasures. If you are looking for something new, this app is interesting enough to check out.
