The Updated Dropcam App Should Make iPad Owners Very Happy

November 14, 2012
While I’ve enjoyed using my Dropcam HD and the companion iOS app since I purchased the system this summer, I’ve always had one major complaint – the lack of a native iPad app. But to my surprise, the company has just taken the wraps off a major update highlighted by support for the iPad and iPad mini. In the tablet app, users can now view four Dropcams at one time. More cameras can be viewed by swiping to the left. If the feed from your own camera is boring, you can also watch video from publicly available Dropcams from all over the world with the app. Photos of live and recorded video can be saved directly from the app to the Photo Library, which could definitely come in handy. Subscribers to Dropcam’s cloud-based DVR service will also receive some nice new benefits with the iPad app. Along with the ability to scroll through recorded video on a DVR timeline, users can glance through thumbnail images that are highlighted when motion and audio are detected. Video clips can also be saved to watch on any iPad, Mac, or PC. The Dropcam app is universal and compatible with both the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch. It can be downloaded for free in the App Store now. You must have a Dropcam HD installed to use the app. The camera is available to purchase directly through Dropcam or on Amazon for $149.99. The DVR service does require an extra monthly fee.
