CloudOn Expands To iPhone And iPod Touch

December 19, 2012
Since its debut nearly a year ago, the CloudOn app has been updated with expanded cloud storage and file format support, better file management, and other enhancements. Today, iPhone and iPod touch compatibility finally arrives as well as official support for the iPad mini and the ability to utilize Microsoft's SkyDrive service for your storage needs. While certainly most comfortable on the iPad's larger screen, CloudOn is still plenty useful on the pocket-sized iOS devices. Much of the user interface elements are very similar, although, iPhone and iPod touch owners don't have the option of icon view for files and folder and file management options are loaded into a slide out menu accessed via the CloudOn logo. Along with SkyDrive support, which is available for all iDevices, the iPhone and iPod touch UI also features a fullscreen mode for easier reading. Unfortunately, there is one limitation. As of now, the small screen UI is restricted to portrait orientation, making it a bit tougher to enter text. However, this may be temporary and isn't a deal breaker. In addition, it's difficult to complain about a small inconvenience when the service and app are being offered for free. CloudOn is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod touch, and newer running iOS 5.0 or later, and is available in the App Store as a free download. Use of the CloudOn iOS app requires a free CloudOn account, as well as free or paid membership of Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, or SkyDrive.
