Rivr For App.net Enhanced With More Streamlined Interface And Add-On Features
December 17, 2012
Just two and a half months after its launch in the App Store, Rivr has now been updated with a major redesign and feature augmentation.
Indeed, the latest update to OmniTyke's "fluid" App.net client is so big that it should've at least bumped the app to version 2.0 instead of the 1.5 designation it now carries.
But 2.0 or not, the new version of Rivr is undeniably packed with significant improvements.
First of all, Rivr is said to have been redesigned practically from scratch, making for a pleasant UI for reading as well as for media.
And speaking of media, Rivr is now integrated with bli.ms, a relatively new service that provides unified multimedia hosting in App.net apps.
Of course, multimedia includes photos. And in the latest version of Rivr, you get to take and post them using the app's newly added Camera+ integration.
Of course (again), multimedia also includes videos, which you can now post to your App.net account directly from Rivr — so long as they're not longer than five minutes.
Other noteworthy additions to Rivr include geotagging, Twitter cross-posting, night mode, #topics, profile editing, Georgia font option, and LongPosts support.
Oh, and there's also the addition of free push notifications.
Designed for iPhone and iPod touch, Rivr is available in the App Store for free.
Christine reviewed Rivr quite favorably and recommended it over other free App.net clients like App.net Rhino. She also considered it as one of the three contenders in AppAdvice's App Showdown of App.net apps, in which it, along with Netbot, "lost" to Felix.
Well, perhaps a reassessment is in order now that a new and improved Rivr is here.
