With Its New iPad Version And Added Features, This App's Development Is Far From Over
December 20, 2012
Over, the popular app that lets you apply text overlays on your photos, is now officially called Over HD.
Why the name change? Well, in App Store parlance, "HD" usually denotes iPad optimization. And this is true in the case of Over HD.
Released back in July as an app designed for iPhone and iPod touch only, Over aka Over HD has just been optimized for iPad and iPad mini.
And "optimized" is indeed the right word for it.
Over HD features an iPad interface that's so ergonomically designed as to be operable with just your thumbs.
Of course, the thumb-friendly radial menu or option wheel that has been a key feature of the original iPhone app is also found in the new iPad app.
This very same wheel now contains a single edit button for sizing, alignment, tinting, and square cropping, which is a newly added function.
The wheel also includes the font and share buttons, whose respective sets of options have both been enhanced through the app's universal update.
For the font options, there are two new ones, namely, Windsong and Live Simply:
Windsong is elegant and timeless, great for poetry and expressing deep emotion. Live Simply was made by an Over user Jamie Cayanong (@jmeelin on Instagram). It is remarkably authentic and works beautifully on almost any photo. It has really fun special character differences between capitals and lowercase. And for the share options, there are also two new ones, namely, sharing on Flickr and sharing to any other app that supports photos. The updated Over HD also features retention of high resolution when saving, a new photo selector, a more precise font size adjuster, imported DSLR photo support, and improved handling of small photos. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.1 or later, Over HD is available in the App Store $1.99. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
