Extra, Extra: NYTimes Gains Search Function, Accessibility Features And More

January 3, 2013
"It's what you've been searching for," says @NYTimesMobile about the newest major feature in the NYTimes app for iPhone. The "it" is none other than the app's newly installed search function. NYTimes, the official iPhone app of The New York Times, has just received a significant update. The update brings several improvements, but undoubtedly of greatest import among these improvements is Search. Prior to the update, the app has only four main tabs: Top News, Most E-Mailed, Saved, and Sections. Now, a new Search tab is introduced. Tapping the Search tab lets you search for articles in the NYTimes app or on NYTimes.com itself. Just type any headline, topic, or keyword in the search bar and you'll see relevant articles from The New York Times. The latest update to NYTimes for iPhone also enables Live Blogs to update automatically and support photos and videos. NYTimes for iPad, the official iPad app of The New York Times, has also received a new update. Oddly, though, search capability is not included in it. What's included is the following couple of improvements, both of which are also included in the latest update to NYTimes for iPhone:
  • Purchase an NYTimes.com subscription more quickly and easily. Connect your NYTimes.com account to access all of our content on the Web and other devices.
  • Visually impaired readers can take full advantage of iOS's Accessibility features, including VoiceOver and AssistiveTouch.
The newly updated NYTimes for iPhone and NYTimes for iPad are both available as free Newsstand apps in the App Store. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
