New Basecamp App By 37signals Launches, Leaves Classic Users Out In The Cold

February 8, 2013
Those of us who use project management service Basecamp know that every iOS app for the service is downright terrible. That changed today with the launch of 37signal’s new Basecamp app for the iPhone, which is quick, accurate, and well designed. The app uses the same green and tan color scheme that was implemented with its 2012 redesign and includes many of the features of the Web utility. You can use it to monitor your projects, conduct discussions, and keep up to date on to-do lists. In short, it’s everything you might want in a mobile Basecamp app. There’s just one problem. This shiny, wonderful Basecamp app only works with “new” Basecamp Projects, completely leaving out Basecamp Classic Projects. That’s right. If you’re working with a Classic project, it won’t even show up in the Basecamp app. The Basecamp app description states that you will need a Basecamp account to use the app, but let’s be clear - you need a Basecamp account and a Basecamp Project that utilizes the redesigned framework. If you’re a Classic user, you will have to stick to the mobile site or access one of the practically non-functional third party apps instead. Basecamp by 37signals is a free download from the App Store. [gallery link="file" columns="2"]
