Updated: An Apple Game Controller Could Be Coming Soon For An Unidentified Device
March 29, 2013
Apple will unveil a dedicated game controller at a press event in April, according to Pocket Gamer. The site contends that Apple “is talking to developers about its plans and ensuring plenty of games will support the joypad at launch,” according to multiple unnamed sources.
However, the report itself is short on specifics, which even they admit. For one, no developer has admitted to actually seeing the physical device. In other words, “we don’t know if the pad will take a conventional approach or employ a radical new design.”
For another, no one seems to be sure whether this pad would be for a new iPad, the long-rumored iTV, a combination of the two, or some other device.
In recent weeks, Apple has given no indication that a springtime “special event” is imminent, let alone that it would focus on gaming. I’m not saying that a video game controller isn’t in Apple’s future. However, I’d be surprised to see Cupertino announce it as early as next month. Again, this doesn't mean that it won't happen. Rather, it seems highly unlikely at this point.

The Loop's Jim Dalrymple says that Pocket Gamer's story is wrong. He says "nope," an Apple game controller isn't going to happen anytime soon. The writer is often cited as being one of the closest to Apple.
