Aurasma 2.0 Adds New Features And Interface

March 8, 2013
Augmented reality (AR) is the future. Some apps such as Pocket Jets (AR) Training use this feature, though in a limited way. Aurasma, however, aims to provide a better experience. The app works by scanning a “trigger image” to reveal interactive media. For example, using the app to scan a Spiderman comic would show a 3-D movie of Spiderman zipping around on his webs. With partnerships such as Marvel, Maybelline, Sony Pictures, and Universal Music Group, there is certainly a wealth of opportunities available to find auras. In fact, GQ, Marvel, Subaru, and USPS plan to use Aurasma 2.0’s capabilities in their upcoming marketing campaigns. “Organizations today are looking for new, creative ways to rise above the noise and engage with their customers,” says Annie Weinberger, global head, Aurasma, HP Autonomy. Those who have used Aurasma previously will definitely appreciate the interface’s overhaul. The design is more streamlined, with easy navigation and a clean look. The difference is night and day, if you compare the 2.0 version to the original, as can be seen here. Here’s what else is new in Aurasma 2.0:
  • Improved object and image recognition
  • Smoother and more robust AR experiences
  • Social media integration with Facebook, Google + and Twitter
  • Simplified process for finding, viewing, and creating AR content

AR will one day be a part of daily life. While some apps take advantage of this feature, Aurasma uses it to its potential, setting the stage for what AR can truly be like. Aurasma 2.0 is available for the iPhone and iPad.
