New Calling Experience Dialed Into Skype For iPhone And iPad

March 8, 2013
Both iPhone and iPad editions of the official iOS client of Skype have been updated today with several improvements. Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad have gained support for marking recent chats as read with just a few taps. Also, they've been enhanced further so as to display one-to-one chats in the correct order. But undoubtedly the highlight of the new versions of the popular VoIP service's iOS apps is their new calling experience. The apps' redesigned calling UI is described in the patch notes as "beautiful." And I must say that yes, it is indeed beautiful, or at least more pleasing to the eye than the previous UI. Compatible with iDevices running iOS 5.0 or later, the new versions of Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad are available now in the App Store for free. A month ago, Skype for iPad was updated with the option to add money to a Skype account to send SMS or call mobile phones and landlines worldwide. This option, though, is limited to users in the U.S., U.K., France, Sweden, and Estonia. It was also updated with an automatic dropped-call reconnection feature for when Wi-Fi or mobile network reception is poor. This feature later made its way to Skype for iPhone as well.
