Today's Best Apps: Dungeon Plunder, Brickout Zero Gravity And Marble Sumo

March 6, 2013
The App Store takes delivery of hundreds of new apps per day. The overwhelming scene makes it possible to easily overlook an exciting game, valuable productivity suite, etc. However, we have a solution. Today’s Best Apps tackles this problem by providing you with a handpicked and tested list of apps that are truly worth your consideration each and everyday. Universal:

Marble Sumo by SketchAPI ($0.99, 21.8 MB): Try not to lose your marbles in this challenging virtual board game. Using your 12 marbles, separated into two six count triangles, attempt to push your opponent's pieces off the board in a reverse tug of war action. In other words, you'll need to outmatch them, for example, two of your marbles to push one of theirs. The game offers both local single and multiplayer modes as well as the option to compete against Game Center friends.

Dungeon Plunder by Dominic Duchesne ($1.79, 41.9 MB): In this retro-style RPG, you'll travel the dynamically generated land and mazes of the underworld full of enemies on a quest to destroy the magical orb and save the kingdom. Along with unpredictable territory and high difficulty due to no respawning, it's the battle and collection system that allows this title to stand out. A slot machine mechanism randomly provides health, defense, and weaponry when facing enemies. However, there is strategy involved as you're able to select which items to lock before the next spin. Only matched items are claimed and utilized. The game also features three playable characters, Facebook and Twitter integration for score sharing as well as Game Center leaderboards and achievements.

Brickout Zero Gravity by Abel Vincze ($1.79, 24.7 MB): On the surface, this is a fairly typical brick-breaking game, however, there are some nice surprises once you dive in. Foremost, the anti-gravity environment and physics are consistent, thus causing the blocks to shift and spin when struck as well as the paddle to tilt when moved. Taking gameplay even further, difficulty is increased by adding deflective items, such as magnetic discs and spinning bars, plus an equally exciting multiplayer. The dual-ball Pong-style tabletop war consists of two players competing for the points of a single set of blocks through multiple matches. It's an action-packed time of strategic combat even after death.
