Shelf Control: Don't Be Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf In Nosy Crow's Little Red Riding Hood

April 29, 2013
Just a few days ago, I finished reading "Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm" by Philip Pullman. Of course, any Brothers Grimm fairy tale collection wouldn't be complete without "Little Red Riding Hood." And it's nice to see that Pullman's includes the story in a new English version. But hey, what's your version of the story? You can answer that question by downloading Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow, which is currently featured as an Editors' Choice in the App Store and is featured right now in Shelf Control. The "Little Red Riding Hood" you most probably know ends with the woodsman slashing the big bad wolf's stomach to rescue the devoured title character and her grandma. Well, Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow ends rather nonviolently and rather differently … in different ways. You see, in Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow, Grandma is only locked away in a cupboard. Moreover, the big bad wolf is defeated by Little Red Riding Hood herself by using three mostly harmless objects on him. And what those objects are and how the story ends are up to you and your little one. That's because Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow is essentially a choose-your-own-adventure story. It lets readers play games and decide which way to go at forks in the path in order to help Little Red Riding Hood collect three different objects. For example, as recounted by the big bad wolf in the trailer below, you may end up with feathers to tickle him with, dandelions to make him allergic, and honey to throw at him. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow features eight different routes, with nine different games and activities embedded within. Other features of this interactive storybook app include:
  • Rich and detailed artwork from the creator of Nosy Crow's award-winning Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs apps
  • Fully animated: characters are constantly on the move
  • Hundreds of lines of dialogue for fifteen characters voiced by child actors
  • Hundreds of interactive touch-points
  • Original music by BAFTA award-winning composer, Robin Beanland
  • Text-highlighting to support emerging and early readers
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow is available now in the App Store for $4.99. So, what's your version of "Little Red Riding Hood"?
