For the second time in less than a month, the official Twitter app for iOS devices has been updated.
Version 5.5 is highlighted by the ability to launch or download your favorite apps directly from tweets. For example, if you expand a tweet to view a Foursquare check-in, you can tap the link to view the information directly in the Foursquare app. If you don’t have the app installed, tap the tweet to install it.
Other improvements in the update include faster launch times and general performance upgrades. It also fixes a bug that prevented undoing retweets in some cases and offers a fix for the reply-to-self issue in conversations.
Lastly, the "retweeted by" information in the tweet detail is now tappable.
Twitter is a universal app for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded in the App Store now for free.
While the official app of the social network continues to improve, there is still no word regarding a standalone Twitter music app. Apparently focusing on music discovery, the app was to reportedly appear before the end of March.
