Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 For The iPhone 5

May 2, 2013
Apple has just released iOS 6.1.4 to the public. The software looks to be a minor update as the only change listed is an updated audio profile for the speakerphone. This update is only for the iPhone 5. You can update an iOS device one of two ways. First, you can go to Settings and then select the Software Update option to download the new version over the air. The update can also be applied by connecting your device to iTunes. Our own Jen Karney experienced first hand the bug apparently fixed by the update. Her iPhone 5 speakers went out recently, and the phone made no noise at all via the external speakers. It would only vibrate. She could hear callers through the earpiece, and the other callers could hear her. But when she activated the speakerphone, it would mute the call. When her handset was replaced, she was told it was a software bug that only affected the iPhone 5. We'll let you know if we spot any other new features. As always, if you're using a jailbroken device, make sure to avoid this update until more information is known about the changes.
