Tetris Creator Lets You Lose Your Marbles While Having Fun With Marbly
May 31, 2013
The creator of the classic block-stacking game Tetris has just unveiled his first game designed particularly for mobile devices.
Back in 2005, Alexey Pajitnov, the Russian computer engineer who developed Tetris, struck a deal to develop a new line of puzzle games with WildSnake Software. Now, the latest game to come out of that collaboration has been released on iOS, and it's called Marbly.
As its name suggests, Marbly has an abundance of marbles instead of Tetriminos. But just like Tetris, Marbly offers a deceptively simple gameplay.
Marbly is a match-three puzzle game where your one and only goal is to remove all of the marbles from the board. To do so, you have to move a marble horizontally, vertically or diagonally in order to form a line of at least three same-colored marbles at every go.
Marbly currently has three puzzle sets, each of which contains 54 puzzles "exclusively braincrafted for you by Mr. Tetris." The first set is free to play, while the remaining two sets may be unlocked by spending the coins you've earned by playing or bought via in-app purchase.
The game also includes a series series of Daily, Time, Moves, Score and Golden challenges as well as Game Center tournaments and achievements.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, Marbly is available now in the App Store for free.
If you'd like to play a reworked, fast-paced version of Pajitnov's most famous creation, check out Tetriz Blitz, which was released by Electronic Arts just a week ago.
