Verizon Offers iPhone 5 For $99, But There's A Big Catch

May 16, 2013
Verizon is now offering consumers the chance to purchase a brand new iPhone 5 handset for just $99, when customers sign-up for a two-year contract. While this impressive offering is 50 percent off Verizon's usual on-contract iPhone 5 handset price of $199, there is, unfortunately, a catch. Speaking with Gotta Be Mobile, Verizon noted that only a select number of subscribers qualify for the discount, which will be available until June 30. Specifically, basic phone owners that the carrier has "identified as being interested in making the transition to a smartphone" will be offered the promotion. The network added that many:
basic phone customers are interested in moving to a smartphone and the iPhone 5 is an ideal solution for those customers. This promotion gives customers an affordable option to help them make the transition.
Further to this, the carrier continues to stress that "not every basic phone owner will be getting the offer," according to Gotta Be Mobile. As such, this impressive deal is also a highly exclusive one. Recently, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo announced that at present, the network is particularly interested in giving customers "more options to buy a phone," and the carrier's new promotion therefore appears to have arisen as a result of this particular initiative. While it's disappointing that preexisting smartphone owners can't take advantage of this offer, it's nevertheless an excellent opportunity for those who haven't yet waded into the exciting world of iPhone, Android, et al.
