AirDrop is flying over to iOS. While announcing iOS 7 at today’s WWDC 2013 keynote, Apple showed off how the file sharing technology will work for iOS devices.
With any app that supports AirDrop, nearby friends will appear. Simply click whatever you’d like to send. Your friend will get a panel on their screen, and then can accept the file transfer.
“There is no need to walk around the room bumping your phone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering.
AirDrop will use peer-to-peer Wi-Fi with encryption. It will only be available on the iPhone 5, fourth-generation iPad, fifth-generation iPod touch, and iPad mini.
