Apple Enters New Chapter With iBooks For Mac On OS X 10.9 Mavericks

June 10, 2013
As we spotted earlier, iBooks is one of the new icons, along with Maps, displayed on the dock of Apple's Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks demo during today's WWDC 2013 keynote. And sure enough, iBooks is indeed coming to Mac — finally! — with the launch of OS X 10.9 Mavericks. With access to 1.8 million books in the iBookstore, iBooks for Mac also makes your entire iBooks library on iOS available on your Mac computer. As expected, it also supports note-taking, highlighting, and text adjustment. It's also set to support interactive iBooks textbooks. The Mac version of iBooks has been a long time coming. The app was announced in conjunction with the iPad in January 2010, and it was released for iPhone and iPod touch as part of the iOS 4 update in mid-2010. Just as iBooks is not preloaded onto iDevices, iBooks for Mac is expected to be not preinstalled on Mac computers. Rather, it's likely to be made available for download from the Mac App Store.
