Ballistic Throws Its Hat Into The Waterproof Case Ring With The Hydra Series

Ballistic is the latest accessory manufacturer to announce a waterproof and rugged case solution for the iPhone 5. The company’s new Hydra Series case can be submerged in water up to 7 feet deep for up to 30 minutes, exceeding IP-68 standards.
The case is also designed to be completely dustproof. Ballistic also claims that the case can protect your iPhone 5 from falls up to 8 feet. The unique AirGap Suspension Springs also provide a 1mm gap between the case and device to provide a further cushion to the handset.
The Hydra case, which also comes with an included belt holster and clip, is available in five different color combinations. It retails for $79.99 and can be ordered directly through the company’s site now. For U.S. customers, the case ships free via USPS.
I’ve previously taken a look at other iPhone 5 cases from the company, including the slim Smooth, and have always been pleased with the build quality.
As a word of warning, though, always make sure to be careful when using cases that claim to be waterproof. I learned the hard way while recently using OtterBox’s Armor Series case for the iPhone 5.
Even so, I do like the fact that every Hydra case is water tested and approved before being shipped to customers. That should give buyers a little extra peace of mind before hanging around the pool or lake this summer.
