Extra! Extra! PressReader Updated With SmartSearch And Commenting Capabilities
June 9, 2013
Since its release in the App Store way back in October 2009, PressReader by NewspaperDirect has been one of the most popular news apps for iPhone and iPad. And to maintain its popularity, NewspaperDirect has just issued a new update to the app that adds a couple of significant new features.
With PressReader, you can read complete digital replicas of your favorite publications. The app supports over 2,000 full-content newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries in over 50 languages available through PressDisplay.com.
The latest update to PressReader adds SmartSearch functionality and article commenting.
The app's new SmartSearch feature lets you:
And the app's newly added support for article commenting, which is available to logged-in PressReader or PressDisplay.com subscribers, allows you to:
- Search for specific publications or search publications by keyword
- Perform keyword search with results displaying in SmartFlow mode (keywords highlighted in search results)
- Utilize advance search criteria including date range, language, sources and headline/article body search results (or both)
Searching and commenting are long-overdue additions to PressReader. So it's nice to finally have them in the app. Regrettably, though, an interface refresh, which the app is also in dire need of, is not included in the new PressReader update. Perhaps it's reserved for the next issue, so to speak. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, PressReader is available in the App Store for free. PressReader is included both in our Apps For News Junkies AppList and in our iPhone News Apps AppGuide. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
