OS X Marks The Spot For Apple Maps

June 10, 2013
Apple’s Maps are moving to the Mac. During today’s WWDC 2013 keynote, Apple announced that the new edition of OS X, Mavericks, will contain the company’s mapping system that first made an appearance last year in iOS 6. During a quick demo, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, showed off some interesting features. While looking spectacular, Maps will be integrated with iOS devices. For example, a route set on a Mac can be sent directly to an iPhone and appear on the lockscreen. When you unlock your device, the iPhone will automatically go to turn-by-turn navigation. A developer SDK for maps was also announced.
