Wistron Is Rumored To Become Apple's Third iPad mini Producer

June 26, 2013
Wistron will soon join Foxconn Electronics and Pegatron as an iPad mini producer. The Taiwan-based company may begin production in 2014 or 2015, according to DigiTimes. Because Wistron also manufactures notebooks, tablets, and smartphones, they could also be used for future MacBook, iPad, and iPhone production. The report notes that since assuming the role of Apple CEO, Tim Cook has been committed to expanding the company’s supply chain. As a result, new component makers and OEMs have been added to Apple’s mix in recent years. Previously, it was reported that Pegatron would serve as the primary producer of Apple's so-called budget iPhone, which is likely to launch this fall. In addition to adding Wistron, Apple is said to have selected two Taiwan-based notebook battery pack makers to supply packs for the next-generation iPhone. The names of those companies have yet to be announced. DigiTimes isn't always the best source for technology news. In addition, it should be noted that Apple has not confirmed this report.
