Penguin and Macmillan have contacted iBookstore customers, notifying them that they're eligible to receive compensation as part of a U.S. Department of Justice antitrust lawsuit against both companies.
According to TUAW, iBookstore customers contacted have been told that they can opt to receive their compensation either as iTunes credit, or as a check. How much, you ask? Well, per e-book, Penguin and Macmillan are offering $3.06 for titles on The New York Times' bestseller list, and $0.73 per non-bestselling e-book.
The website explains:
The notification points out that this is just for Penguin and Macmillan, and the settlements are pending by the court. Previously approved settlements include HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster and the Hachette Book Group.Notifications were sent out about these earlier settlements in November 2012.If the settlements are approved by Dec. 6, customers should receive compensation some time in 2014.
