Shelf Control: Enter A Mystical World In Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih
August 5, 2013
For this week, Apple has selected Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih as its Editors' Choice in the App Store. And it's mightily right to have done so, since, as I'm about to explain in this week's edition of Shelf Control, the app is an interactive storybook app that's worth recommending.
Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih is designed by Rival Schools and published by Loud Crow Interactive.
If you're already familiar with Loud Crow's portfolio, which includes the acclaimed "Peanuts" storybook apps A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and Charlie Brown's All Stars, then you can expect another great work in Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih.
And if you're new to Loud Crow's oeuvre, you're in for a wonderful treat unlike anything you've seen on iOS, or on any mobile platform for that matter.

The Story of Kalkalih is actually the first episode in the Bramble Berry Tales, a series of stories about the adventures of the little brother-and-sister duo of Lily and Thomas.
In Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih, Lily and Thomas learn about the fearsome Kalkalih, a cannibal woman based on the oral traditions of the Squamish people. Through her story, as told by the siblings' Mooshum (grandfather), Lily and Thomas learn valuable life lessons.
As with Loud Crow's other offerings, the story at the core of the app is complemented by the way it is told. In Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih, the characters and their surroundings come alive through beautiful illustrations, mesmerizing music, interesting sounds, and interactive touches.
Also, the story is delivered through professional narration and voice acting coupled with word highlighting for the little ones. What's more, kids can follow along in English, French, Spanish, or even the original Skwxwú7mesh language.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, Bramble Berry Tales - The Story of Kalkalih is available now in the App Store for $2.99.
As mentioned, The Story of Kalkalih is the first episode in the Bramble Berry Tales series. The second and third episodes are already set for release in October and December this year.
The second episode is titled Great Sasquatch, and it has Lily and Thomas encountering one of the most mysterious creatures of all. The third episode, for its part, is called Little People, and it lets you join the siblings as they unravel the mystery of the small creatures known as the Memegwesiwak.
