The Apple Store App For iPhone Now Features Paid Apps For Free
August 2, 2013
The Apple Store app for iPhone now features a free app showcase. This week’s app, Color Zen, is a puzzle game that is normally priced at $0.99.
To find the free app, visit your local Apple retail store from within the app. It is marked as “A game for you. On us.”
When you click on the free app link, "Download now for free," you’ll be taken to the App Store app to initiate the download. Interestingly enough, the game isn’t free when you search for it directly from within this app.
Apple is expected to add new free content to the Apple Store app each week. In addition to games, future titles may include other apps, iBooks, and iTunes media.
The addition of a free app section in the Apple Store app doesn't come as a surprise. Aldrin Calimlim noted last month that this was coming in a move by Apple to push iPhone sales directly from its retail operations.
As he stated:
Essentially, the upcoming update enables the Apple Store app to promote content from the App Store, iTunes Store, and iBookstore. How? By offering certain premium items from those stores free for a limited time. For more information, see: Color Zen Updated To Add New Levels, More Music And iPhone 5 Support, and Apple Updates The Apple Store App, Prepares For Downloadable Content?
