Two Thumbs Up For The 2.0 Update Of Simple And Sleek Crossword App Four Down

August 16, 2013
Four Down, the simple and sleek crossword app developed by Andy Wilkinson, has just gone up to version 2.0. Four Down 2.0 happens to be none other than the app's much-requested universal update. The app was launched early last month as an app that's designed for iPad only, as most iOS crossword apps are. But its 2.0 update has optimized it to work with iPhone and iPod touch as well. The new iPhone and iPod edition of Four Down is, fortunately, not just a shrunken version of the original iPad edition. If it were, it would be practically unusable and unplayable. As it is, Four Down for iPhone and iPod touch is well-designed, making optimal use of what little screen space is available relative to that on the iPad. What's more, Four Down's universal update comes with iCloud support for automatically syncing your progress across your iDevices. The app's new progress syncing feature can come in handy especially since the number of puzzles in Four Down has been doubled. Originally containing 12 puzzles, Four Down gained 12 additional puzzles through its previous update, which was issued last week. Now, the app presents 24 puzzles to bring out the best cruciverbalist in you. And regardless of what iDevice you're playing on, Four Down offers the following features:
  • See how you're doing: check individual letters, an answer, or the entire puzzle
  • Get help if you're stuck: fill in individual letters, a whole answer, or even the entire puzzle
  • Track your progress: easily see new puzzles, the puzzles you're working on, and the puzzles you've completed
  • Fully accessible using VoiceOver
The new universal version of Four Down is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $0.99 download. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later. If you're interested in other crossword apps, albeit ones that are iPad-only (and are, frankly speaking, not as simple and sleek as Four Down), check out AppAdvice's Crosswords For iPad AppGuide.
