Anki Drive iOS-Connected Real-World Racing Game To Hit Apple Stores On Oct. 23

October 17, 2013
Ready, set … It's a go for Anki Drive, which is set to be available starting next week. If you'll recall, Anki Drive was unveiled last June at WWDC 2013. During his keynote address at the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook welcomed Anki to the stage to preview its iOS-connected technology, which is considered the first video game to be programmed for the physical world. And now, Anki Drive is already geared to be launched on Wednesday, Oct. 23. "As exciting as this step is for us, we look at it as much more than just the launch of our first product," says Anki cofounder and CEO Boris Sofman. "We see it as a key step in a massive new industry still in its infancy. We see Anki Drive as a milestone in consumer robotics, and a demonstration of how transformative robotics and artificial intelligence technologies can be to categories that have yet to be touched by them." Anki Drive is a new kind of racing game in that each car is equipped with sensors and intelligent software. Artificial intelligence is mostly at play in Anki Drive, but players can control certain parameters of their cars through the official Anki Drive iOS app. Check out the impressive introductory video for Anki Drive below: If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Anki Drive will be available starting Oct. 23 from Apple's retail stores and online stores in the U.S. and Canada. Its starter bundle, which contains two cars, chargers, and a race track, costs $199. The two additional cars can be purchased for $69 each. The Anki Drive iOS app is available in the App Store for free. It's optimized for play using an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, fifth-generation iPod touch, third-generation iPad, fourth-generation iPad, and iPad mini.
