Shelf Control: Put Your Literary Knowledge To The Test With LitBound For iOS
October 21, 2013
Welcome back to another edition of Shelf Control. For this week, we'll shake things up a bit by focusing our attention on an app that's not exactly about iOS-assisted reading. Rather, we're going to be taking a look at an iOS game that involves some of the best-known books that we may or may not have already read.
I'm referring to LitBound:
For bibliophiles, book worms, guessing game fanatics, voracious readers, or anyone who loves games - LitBound is the premier literature game app that tests players' memories for the greatest, most popular books of all time.LitBound is one of the latest additions to the category of games in the App Store that seem to have cropped up following the rise in popularity of 4 Pics 1 Word. In 4 Pics 1 Word, each level displays four pictures linked by one word, and your aim is to work out what the word is using a set of letters given below the pictures. Similarly, in LitBound, you have to guess the title of a literary work given a set of letters. But instead of four pictures, you're given only one image that symbolizes the work in question. LitBound features six categories: Great Books, Best Sellers, Children's, Sci-Fi Fantasy, Graphic Novels, and Movies (books that have been adapted to film). In any category, you're rewarded with 25 coins for every correct answer. Your collected coins can be used toward activating hints in particularly tricky levels. There are four types of hints in LitBound: Delete Letters, Show Letter, Author Hint, and Skip. Delete Letters, which costs 50 coins, display only the letters used in the title. Show Letter, which also costs 50 coins, reveals one letter in the title. Author Hint, which costs 300 coins, provides the author of the literary work being asked for. And finally, Skip, which costs 500 coins, automatically answers the level and moves on to the next. In addition to these hints, LitBound also lets you seek help from your Facebook friends, without costing you any coins. I've been having lots of fun guessing the titles in LitBound. Some are pretty easy, but the latter ones are quite difficult. It's really challenging and also very rewarding especially, I imagine, for us bookworms. Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.1 or later, LitBound is available in the App Store for free. The game offers in-app purchases ranging from $0.99 to $4.99 for different amounts of coins.
