Wall Street Consensus: Apple Sold 15 Million iPads In September Quarter

On Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that 170 million iPads have been sold since 2010. This suggests that Apple sold around 15 million tablets during the September quarter, according to AppleInsider. Soon after this week’s iPad event, Wall Street analysts began adjusting their sales forecasts for Apple’s fourth quarter. Maynard Um of Well Fargo Securities now suggests that Apple sold 14.9 million iPads from July through September. Timothy Acuri of Cowen and Company is slightly more bullish. He is now projecting that 15 million units were sold. Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets now expects "modest downside" to his expectation of 14.8 million units. Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray sees iPad sales of 14 million units. During the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple reported iPad sales of 14 million units. We’ll know soon enough how many tablets were sold. Apple will announce its fourth quarter earnings this Monday, Oct. 28. Starting on Nov. 1, the iPad Air will be available in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China (Wi-Fi models only), Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao (Wi-Fi models only), Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. At Apple retail stores in these countries, the iPad Air will be available beginning at 8 a.m. local time. A specific release date for the iPad mini with Retina display hasn't been announced. Apple has only said that sales will begin in November.
