Readable 2 Features New iOS 7-Inspired Design, New Features And ... Tweeticles?

November 20, 2013
The auto-scrolling reading app Readable has just been updated to version 2.0. Readable 2 introduces a new design based on the visual style of iOS 7. What's more, it includes support for iOS 7's Dynamic Type, AirDrop, and swipe-to-go-back gesture. Readable 2 also features 64-bit support, iCloud syncing for history and favorites, one-tap pagination, and article sharing with specific reading position. But perhaps the biggest change in Readable 2 is the omission of RSS support in favor of "Tweeticles." Say what? Yup, you read that right: Tweeticles, or articles linked from tweets. "When Google Reader was axed in July 2013, reading apps had to find new ways to support news reading," notes Readable developer Joindup. "Readable 2 uses 'Tweeticles' - articles contained in tweets." "Most modern blogs post to a Twitter stream and users are familiar with maintaining their own Twitter lists," Joindup continues. "Readable leverages this shift to provide a better way to discover and read articles generated by your connections." Indeed, for many users, Twitter has long become their go-to service for checking out the latest articles on their favorite topics. So Readable 2's use of Tweeticles (its somewhat unpleasant-sounding name notwithstanding) instead of RSS makes a lot of sense. Unsurprisingly, Readable 2 requires a Twitter account to display Tweeticles. It provides a regularly updated selection of Tweeticles across a range of topics, including Top Reads, Business, Cuisine, Culture, Design, Mobile, News, Science, Sport, Technology, and TV & Film. In addition, it shows Tweeticles based on specific Twitter timelines, lists, hashtags, or searches. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Readable 2 is available now in the App Store for free. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
