Shelf Control: Read 'Pride And Prejudice' As You Run And Jump In Stride & Prejudice

November 12, 2013
It is a truth universally acknowledged (well, not really) that if you cleverly combine "Pride and Prejudice" with a currently in thing, you can expect to achieve more than a modicum of success. Previously on Shelf Control, I featured Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Interactive eBook, the official iOS adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s popular parody of undead manners. This time, I'm featuring Stride & Prejudice, an endless running game based on Jane Austen's 1813 novel:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Stride & Prejudice is an unusual endless runner where the platforms are made from the text of Pride and Prejudice.
Indeed, Stride & Prejudice challenges you to stride over the sentences of "Pride and Prejudice" in their proper sequence. This effectively enables you to read Austen's classic prose as you play a side-scrolling platforming endless runner. Brilliant, innit? What's more, you get to run as a pixelated version of the novel's iconic heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, "fashionably dressed in high heels and an empire-waisted-dress." Just tap to make Lizzy jump from one platform to the next. Stride & Prejudice offers two game modes, namely, survival mode and reader mode. The former dares you to go farther and farther into the novel as it requires you to start running from the beginning of the book every single time. In contrast, the latter lets you pick up where you fell off, essentially allowing you to continue reading the book at the point where you left off. You can customize the scrolling speed and acceleration as well as the color scheme in the game’s settings menu. From there you can also toggle the game sounds and reset your saved place in reader mode. Stride & Prejudice is available in the App Store for $0.99, with no in-app purchases or third-party ads whatsoever. It's a universally compatible app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. As always, if you have suggestions for Shelf Control, please feel free to email me at aldrin@appadvice.com or simply leave a comment below. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
