Today's Best Apps: Wind City, UDLR:SWIPE, Farming Simulator 14 And More
UDLR:SWIPE by 11:11 Studios (Free, 15.8 MB): This Simon-style action-arcade game provides plenty of challenge to your mind and fingers through a reflex-based frenzy. As the timer ticks, your task is to push and pull away every color on display: swipe up when yellow, down when green, left when blue, and right when red. Single file makes it so simple to start, but then multiple panes begin to manifest, fracturing your focus to force a failure. The game features minimalistic 2-D graphics, simple sound effects, single and multi-touch support, and a Game Center leaderboard. The occasional pop-up ads may be disabled via a $0.99 in-app purchase.
Wind City by Real Fun Games (Free, 53.2 MB): Outsmart the evildoer and save the environmentally-friendly inhabitants from a diabolical blackout in this puzzle-based city simulation game. Malevolent scientist Gusto doesn't seem to relish Wind City's people or their "green" energy ecosystem as he has diverted all of the wind away from the blade-equipped, power producing capacitors using breeze funneling atomizers. However, you can counter the effects by strategically placing additional turbines to redirect that wind back into the capacitors. Time is short and resources slim, so be as efficient as possible, but don't fret too much because the mayor, maintenance team, and more will offer valuable assistance on occasion. The game features retro 3-D graphics, upbeat chiptunes, 60 stages, six types of turbines, daily awards plus Facebook leaderboards and achievements.
Revershooter by URARA-WORKS Co., Ltd. (Free, 19.2 MB): Get your fill of fast-paced strategy fun with this vertical shooter morphed Reversi. As in the board game, capturing white discs requires containing their edges using black discs and vice-versa. However, there's no casual turn taking here, only an intense air attack using a miniatured space fighter. While speeding down the elongated board, take a sweeping look at the oncoming columns and pay attention to your arsenal. Now, decide on how to most efficiently distribute the payload to capture pieces before the endless onslaught reaches the breaking point. The game features a mixture of 3-D and retro 2-D graphics, cheery chiptunes, survival-style play, single finger control, statistics, and Game Center leaderboards.
Farming Simulator 14 by GIANTS Software GmbH ($2.99, 42.6 MB): Prove that you're an agriculture ace in this latest farming simulator. Cultivate the soil using the plow, seed it, add fertilizer, then sit back and wait or tackle another field. Once the crop is ready, hop into the combine and start the harvest. For every load, you'll also need to switch to the tractor, hook up the grain trailer, and head out to unload the goods. Yes, it's time consuming and perhaps even tedious but, hopefully, satisfying. Speaking of money, don't forget to replenish the supplies, such as fuel, seeds, etc. The more you succeed, the bigger and better things get, including more land, crop types, expansion into cattle, and so on. The game features 3-D graphics, mini-map and adjustable camera, calm soundtrack, automatic progress with day and night changes, and dual-thumb controls with multi-task allowing auto-drive for field work.
iPad:Detective Quest: The Crystal Slipper HD - A Hidden Object Adventure by Big Fish Games, Inc (Free, 729.0 MB): This hidden objects adventure game immerses you in an enjoyable retelling of the classic slipper-focused fairytale. As an acclaimed detective, you are approached by a Paris prince desperate to find his lost love. Unfortunately, the only clues are a portrait and a single glass slipper. In addition, time is of the essence as the heir's kingdom commanding focus withers away in despair. Travel to the kingdom and locate the woman before it's too late. The game features hand-drawn graphics, instrumental soundtrack, light humor, three difficulty levels, as well as bonus items: wallpapers, concept, art, and more. Start the journey for free and unlock the rest for $4.99.
