AppAdvice App Of The Week For Dec. 30, 2013
Every week, our staff will handpick an app from the past two weeks that we believe is a must-download for your iPhone or iPad. These apps will always be from various categories, but they are chosen because our own staff members love it and have been using them daily. So here are this week’s picks! Enjoy!
The Walk - Fitness Tracker and GameLooking to get a good start on the new year by being more active, but not necessarily running? Then our App of the Week will get you off to the right start: The Walk - Fitness Tracker and Game.
This beautiful app combines the activity of walking in real life with an immersive, fictional storyline that takes place in virtual reality on your device. There are 23 “episodes” in The Walk, each serving as basically a chapter in the plot. As you get active by walking, you will unlock new audio clips based on your active time. Think of it as an audiobook that takes place in the area you’re in, and that rewards you for moving.
As you unlock the audio clips, you can listen to them while you’re walking, or even just play them back after your walk. This app may have a fictional story, but it will really feel as if you’re walking in the middle of the action. The Walk will also adapt to various walking speeds and lifestyles, with the average episode taking a few days to complete. And with 23 episodes to go through, it will take quite a bit of walking before you’ll complete the game.
We’ve been enjoying The Walk as a fun supplement to our daily exercise routine, and if your goal is to get more active in the new year, then this definitely helps. You can get The Walk - Fitness Tracker and Game in the App Store for your iPhone for $3.99.

Honorable Mention Redd - Reddit ClientLove browsing Reddit? Then you will love our Honorable Mention for the week: Redd - Reddit Client.
This minimalistic and elegant app provides a fast and simple way to browse Reddit right from your iPhone. It looks and feels like a native iOS 7 app, if Apple were to ever make their own Reddit app. The fonts used are easy-to-read and navigating around is quite intuitive.
If you have a Reddit account, you can log in to it and access your subscribed subreddits while browsing through the all subreddit list. While viewing a subreddit, Redd makes it easy to differentiate through the various posts thanks to the filtered views for Hot, New, Rising, Controversial, and Top. This makes it incredibly easy to stay on top of your favorite subreddits or whatever is on the Frontpage of Reddit.
The post list will also show a thumbnail of an image if there is one, or a link image. Tapping this thumbnail allows you to view the webpage or image in full screen, or you can tap on the post to see the content as well as comments. If you’re logged in, you can upvote or downvote a post for karma, leave a comment of your own, or check out related posts. There is also a quick way to add your own story to a forum, and include text, multiple images, or links.
Some of us are avid fans of Reddit, as you can find pretty much anything there for your entertainment. We’ve been enjoying Redd’s simplicity and slick features, and if you’re a Reddit user, then this is one worth checking out. You can get Redd - reddit client in the App Store for your iPhone for $0.99.
