Netflix Makes History Once Again With Its Golden Globe Award For 'House Of Cards'

January 13, 2014
Tonight, Netflix hit a milestone as it became the first original online programming service to earn a major television award. This is thanks to the Best Actress in a Drama Television Series award given at the Golden Globes to Robin Wright for her performance in Netflix's political drama series, "House of Cards." "House of Cards," which marked Netflix's first foray into original programming, was also nominated for Best Drama Series and two other acting awards, Best Actor in a Drama Television Series for Kevin Spacey and Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film for Corey Stoll. Netflix itself also earned two other Golden Globe acting nods for its dramedy series, "Orange is the New Black," and the cult TV sitcom "Arrested Development." Commenting on Netflix's multiple nominations, Golden Globe Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series awardee and ceremony host Amy Poehler said, "Enjoy it while it lasts, Netflix — you’re not going to feel so smug in a few years when Snapchat is up here accepting for Best Drama." Last September, Netflix already made history by being the first online television provider to win a Primetime Emmy: the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series earned by David Fincher for directing the pilot episode of "House of Cards." Netflix is available on the Web and on a variety of Netflix-ready devices, including iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV.
