Shelf Control: Transform How You Experience Life In Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel
January 27, 2014
In this week's edition of Shelf Control, we're going to take a look at the newly released Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel. The app is the aptly named interactive iOS edition of the graphic novel "Shifter" by Anomaly: Interactive Graphic Novel creator Anomaly Productions.
Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel follows the Hitckcockian sci-fi story of Noah Freeman, a low-level government worker who accidentally discovers an ancient alien space technology that enables him to experience life through other living things:
What if you could soar with the birds – not in a man-made contraption or by using virtual reality, but as an actual bird? What if you could literally be a fly on the wall in a top-secret meeting? What if you could become any animal in the world or, better yet, anybody in the world? What if you could become any creature that has ever existed (and some you never believed could exist)?Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel lets you dive into Noah's story through nine chapters of fully painted pages enhanced with multimedia features. These multimedia enhancements include voice acting, embedded animations, musical score, sound effects, and interactive touch points for supplementary information — effectively taking ComiXology's Guided View technology (as featured in the popular Comics app) much further. Most notably, Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel features the voice talent of actor, writer, and all-around geek icon Wil Wheaton as Noah. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.1 or later, Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel is available now in the App Store for free. The free download includes the first chapter only. The remaining eight chapters can be unlocked in pairs for $0.99 each or all at once for $2.99 via in-app purchase. All in all, Shifter: Interactive Graphic Novel offers 200 fully painted pages, 65 interactive touch points, 875 panels of art, and 2.5 hours of audio. "Shifter," the original graphic novel, is available for around $15 from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other booksellers. It has a companion "ultimate augmented reality" app called Shifter UAR, which you can download in the App Store to bring the book's characters to life with interactive 3-D animations.
