Square Partners With Griffin For Square Reader-Integrated Merchant Case For iPhone
January 6, 2014
The mobile payment company Square and the mobile accessory maker Griffin has teamed up to launch the Merchant Case.
Available for iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, the Merchant Case is the first protective case that features integration with the Square Reader. The Square Reader is a small device that plugs into the audio jack of the iPhone and reads credit cards for making payments via the Square Register point-of-sale app.
According to Square:
The case is custom-molded to secure the Square Reader when connected. A groove in the bottom of the case aligns with the Square Reader to guide a credit card to an easy, consistent swipe time after time. Made from durable silicone, the case protects the phone from bumps and drops. The case’s non-slip sides and corners make it easier to hold the phone and to hand over for customers' signatures. Additionally, the Square Reader can be detached and stored in the back of the case when not in use.The Merchant Case may be purchased for $19.99, inclusive of a Square Reader, from Griffin's online store. It won't be available to ship for current orders until two weeks later at most, but it will be on display at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Merchant Case is the inaugural product of the just-launched Works with Square program, which enables developers to build accessories that are integrated with Square's services.
