Apple Has Hired Another Scientist To Work On The 'iWatch'
February 13, 2014
Apple has hired yet another medical sensor expert for the company’s long-rumored “iWatch” product. Marcelo Malini Lamego, the former CTO of Cercacor, a medical devices company, is the newest hire, according to NetworkWorld.
Lamego, who started at Apple in January, is credited with more than 70 patent applications and granted patents related to sensor and patient monitoring technologies. While at Masimo, he was the lead scientist involved in the development of Rainbow, a noninvasive monitoring platform.
This isn’t the first time Apple has hired someone who once worked at Masimo. In January, it was unveiled that Michael O’Reilly, M.D., former Chief Medical Officer at Masimo, was hired in July 2013.
Apple is likely to launch the iWatch in the coming months. The new product is expected to focus on health and fitness.
